Liberal Democrats challenge voluntary grant cuts

At next Thursday’s council meeting, Councillor Prue Bray (leader of the Liberal Democrats on Wokingham Borough Council) will be proposing a motion deploring the cuts in Council grants to voluntary organisations.

Councillor Bray said: ‘The voluntary sector in Wokingham Borough plays an invaluable role in offering services to protect our vulnerable residents. If the council had to provide these services itself, there is no doubt that they would cost much more than they currently do. In the current economic climate, the priority has to be to look after the Borough’s vulnerable people in the most cost effective way available. It is ridiculous that the Conservative council sees cutting grants to the voluntary sector as the best way to achieve this.’
