Liberal Democrats welcome Reading Credit Union to Woodley

The Reading Credit Union opens for business at the Oakwood Centre in Woodley on September 22nd September.

Last year, in response to the recession, the Lib Dem leadership on Woodley Town Council agreed to fund the Wokingham Job Support Centre to allow them to operate out of the Oakwood Centre and Lib Dems are now really pleased to welcome the Reading Credit Union to the services available at the Oakwood Centre. The credit union will operate between 1:30 to 4pm on a Tuesday.

Beth Rowland Lib Dem leader of Woodley Town Council said, “The credit union is a community co-operative bank run by the members for the members and will be available for secure savings and low-cost loans. It will provide a valuable alternative to banks and loan sharks for local residents in these difficult times”. She went on to say, “Being able to run these community services in the heart of Woodley really does show the value of having a high quality facility such as the Oakwood Centre in the town”.

Gareth Epps, the Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Reading East said, “The Lib Dem controlled council have shown great leadership in bringing these services to the town, without the town council’s drive to provide services in Woodley people would have had to go to Wokingham or Reading. The Oakwood Centre is a great facility for the town.”
